At current, sessions are being conducted via Telehealth (via phone or video) only. Below are some FAQ regarding Telehealth services:
How do Telehealth Sessions work?
Sessions are conducted either through video-conference technology or through telephone. The choice of which method you prefer is up to you. However, video-conference sessions are recommended as we can still see each other visually. Provided that you have a private space and computer that has a microphone and camera, video-conference is easy. All you need to do is click on a link that is sent to you to start the session.
Are there any benefits to Telehealth?
The biggest upside is that you can be supported in the comfort of your own home/preferred location. It also reduces the likelihood of exposure to illness.
The Australian Psychological Society (APS) note that, “Individual telehealth consultations with psychologists are well supported by the evidence,” and are just as effective as face-to-face sessions for many presenting issues.
Do I need a referral for Telehealth?
Provided that you have a referral and valid Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) or Eating Disorder Plan (EDP) prepared by your GP, you will be eligible for Telehealth. Even if you don't, you can still access Telehealth as a private client. If you have private health insurance, you may be eligible for a rebate. Please speak to your private health insurer to clarify your eligibility for a rebate.
Is it confidential?
Your practitioner will conduct sessions from a private room. To maintain privacy from your home, it is recommended that you also use a private room that is free of distractions. For some, this is not possible and an alternate location may need to be considered.
While Telehealth technology is secure, it is worth noting that like with all electronic communications, there is always the small risk of hacking or others tapping into the video connection.
How long are the sessions?
Telehealth, like with face-to-face sessions, are approximately 50 minutes in duration.
